About
Hello, I’m Phillip – The Jolly Dog Photographer, and I specialize in creating stunning contemporary fine art portraits of your beloved pets. I grew up in Brampton, Cumbria, where I developed a deep love for the countryside and the great outdoors, which continues to influence my photography today. Alongside me on this journey is my trusted companion and adventurer, Chester, my Yorkiepoo, who keeps me company and inspires me every step of the way.
After earning a PhD in Chemistry and spending nearly 20 years in industrial and academic research, my life took an artistic turn when I inherited my Grampa's old compact Leica D-Lux camera. Determined to master manual shooting, I set myself a New Year's resolution in 2020 to learn photography, and it quickly became an obsession. I took a night class at SPAO: Photographic Arts Centre to refine my skills, and after completing the course, I upgraded to a 42 MP Sony.
When I lost my job at Uni Ottawa, I started photographing people's dogs around the city for fun, sharing the images on Instagram. This hobby sparked a deeper passion, and I took it a step further by cycling around Vancouver Island, capturing the beauty of the landscapes and the pets I encountered.
Now back in the UK, I’m proud to call Carlisle and Cumbria home, where I offer a unique blend of artistic vision and technical skill to capture your pet’s personality in timeless portraits. Whether you’re looking to immortalize your pet in fine art or create lasting memories, I’m here to help you every step of the way.
